Belated Sorrow

I feel so sad learning--belatedly as it turns out--of Barbara's death. We met probably 10 or more years ago at Mystery Lovers bookstore near Pittsburgh, where we were on panels for a special event. When I told her I hadn't read her first book yet, but couldn't wait to, she invited me back to the hotel with herself and Charlaine Harris, her traveling buddy, so she could make me a gift of a copy she just happened to have in her suitcase.

We hit it off immediately--she was indeed a delightful, bright spirit with a great sense of humor and such kindness! I left with a treasured copy of Writers of the Purple Sage, the first of her terrific books & now all the more precious because I know there won't be anymore.

Nor will there ever be another Barbara.
